Young Artist Productions - Red Mountain Theatre

RMT's Young Artist Productions are BY KIDS, FOR KIDS (though helped by theatre professionals). Through rehearsal and execution of high-quality musical productions, young performers are trained in technique and craft, etiquette and professionalism. Our young artists take pride in their hard work as hours of rehearsal culminate at show time. As educators, we have the privilege to see them behind the curtain as their energy and excitement buzzes before they take the stage and deliver stellar performances.

What is a Young Artist Production?

All RMT Young Artist Productions are tuition-based, educational opportunities for actors 18 and under. Students will see huge leaps in artistic education and personal growth, and make lasting friendships with likeminded peers! Age groups will vary by production.

How do I get cast for a Young Artist Production?

Step 1: Register and pay the deposit for tuition. Students should have a basic understanding of theatre before registering to participate. Here is the link to register.
Step 2: Prepare to Audition. For most auditions, you will need to prepare 16 bars of an audition song to sing from memory. You will also do a dance call and cold reads from the script. Some auditions may require additional preparation, so read directions carefully!
Step 3: Bring your headshot/resume and a parent or guardian to the audition. All auditions begin with a short mandatory meeting with parents and guardians.
Step 4: Get cast! All registered students will be cast in the show. The audition/casting process is considered part of the Young Artist Production Opportunity.

What if I need help with tuition?

What should I expect the rehearsal schedule to look like?

We generally rehearse weekdays in the evenings, full day Saturday, half day Sunday. Each show will have a set schedule announced before registration.

How many performances are there?

There are generally four performances of each Young Artist Production.

It's your turn for ALL THAT JAZZ! Register now to be part of the cast of Chicago Teen Edition this fall. All registered students will be cast in the show.

How to Prepare and What to Expect

Audition Details: In order to audition for this production, all students must register and pay a deposit prior to auditions. Tuition for this opportunity is $850. Financial aid and payment plans are available. All registered students will be cast in the show. Registrations are open to all students grades 8-12; students should have a basic understanding of theatre before registering to participate. For the audition, prepare 16-32 bars of an audition song to sing from memory; please bring your sheet music with you to the audition. RMT will provide an accompanist. You will also do a dance call and cold reads from the script. If you have questions or concerns about auditioning, reach out to education@redmountaintheatre.org. Please bring your headshot and resume to the audition or email it to education@redmoutaintheatre.org prior to auditioning.

The audition is Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 6:00-10:00pm. The audition starts with a 30 minute mandatory parent/guardian meeting. If no one is able to attend the mandatory meeting, please reach out to education@redmountaintheatre.org.

All rehearsals for a Young Artist Productions are mandatory. Students will be approved for no more than ONE non-emergency absence during this production. All absences must be submitted to the stage manager PRIOR TO the audition for approval. No absences are allowed during technical rehearsals or performances.

Callbacks: Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 6:00-10:00pm

Callback Details: Students will be notified if they are needed for callbacks. Within that notification will be what students need to prepare.

NEW: YAP Tech CREW

Grades: 8th-12th
Program runs October 5-25, 2026

RMT is proud to launch the YAP Tech Crew, which runs parallel to our production of Chicago Teen Edition. Students in grades 8-12 will get hands-on experience in five theatre tech departments: Props, Scenic, Lighting, Sound, and Costuming. Taught by the RMT Production Staff, you’ll learn both the theory behind creative decisions and how to make them come to life. Then you’ll be part of the run crew for the performances, joining with the cast to make it all come together. This is an incredible chance to work alongside theatre professionals and get experience with state-of-the-art technical programs.

What to Expect

In order to participate in this production, all students must register and pay a deposit. Tuition for this opportunity is $500. Financial aid and payment plans are available. All registered students will spend two weeks learning the art of design and practical theatre skills and then the last week be integrated into the run crew of the show. Students are expected to attend all classes, rehearsals, and performances. Registrations are open to all students grades 8-12; students should have a basic understanding of theatre before registering to participate.

All classes and rehearsals for a Young Artist Productions are mandatory. Students will be approved for no more than ONE non-emergency absence during this production. All absences must be submitted to the stage manager PRIOR TO the program start for approval. No absences are allowed during technical rehearsals or performances.
