Reid Watson is a proud alumni of Red Mountain Theatre! He has substantial experience of teaching theatre to students of all ages, demographics, and settings. Reid coaches private lessons and teaches both Youth and Adult Acting courses at Red Mountain Theatre. He also teaches and serves The Altamont School as the Director of The Cabiness-Kaul Center for the Arts. The Altamont School recently awarded Reid as the 2023 Enda Earl Endowed Teacher of the Year in 2023 and The Georgeann Zohar Travel Grant in 2024, where he completed The Pandemonium Studio's four week teacher training in New York City under the mentorship of Christopher Bayes (Head of Physical Acting and Professor at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale.) Reid has taught Introduction to Theatre and Methods of Teaching Theatre at The University of Alabama, where he also served the UA Department of Theatre & Dance as a Resident Director. Mr. Watson has served thirteen years of teaching for ArtPlay at UAB, in addition to teaching at Pinson Valley High School, Birmingham Children's Theatre, and P.S. 87 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, as well as leading masterclasses and retreats for corporate clients such as techstars of Alabama. He is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association (A.E.A.) Watson's research areas include performance pedagogy, directing, and statistical research in the field of theatre education. He holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University and MFA in Directing from The University of Alabama.
Reid's recent production of Single Rider by Amanda d'Archangelis and Sami Horneff was adjudicated through both District and State levels of evaluation taking home Best in Show at the State Level for Studio at The Alabama Conference of Theatre's Trumbauer Theatre Festival. Single Rider went on to represent the state of Alabama by performing in The Lyric Baltimore at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March 2025. He also recently directed the STARS summer production of Oklahoma at The Virginia Samford Theatre in June 2025 and looks forward to directing Grease in July 2026! Mr. Watson has directed shows such as The Merchant of Venice, Hand to God, The River, Moon Over Buffalo, A Chorus Line, Mamma Mia, Clue, Mean Girls, Footloose, The Addams Family, Into the Woods, Xanadu, and Hello, Dolly! Mr. Watson made his NYC debut in the Off-Broadway Revival of Urinetown at the American Theatre of Actors. He has also performed at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, Maine State Music Theatre, The Gusman/Olympia Theatre in Miami, Fracture Theatre Company, Syracuse Stage, The Virginia Samford Theatre, Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre, and on television through HBO. A few of his performance credits include Ragtime, Parade, Sunday in the Park with George, Chamberlain, Godspell, Hairspray, Street Scene, and Big River.
While living in New York City, Watson studied privately with Joan Lader (2016 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre) in the work of Estill Voice International. He has served as a Theatre Grant Evaluator for the Alabama State Council on the Arts. He has been recognized through the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts as a YoungArts Winner in Musical Theatre. Watson was also recognized through The University of Alabama’s College of Education as a Most Outstanding Graduate Student. He aims to be approachable, compassionate, inclusive, and collaborative!
