Position: Assistant Costume Coordinator

Reports to: Costume Director


Summary of Position:

The Assistant Costume Coordinator will assist the Costume Director and Lead Costume Coordinator in the planning, creation, implementation, and execution of the costume design to support the artistic vision of RMT productions and special events. Primary responsibilities will directly support RMT educational performances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with production and special event fittings and alterations
  • Provide costume construction support of productions and events
  • Complete alterations of costumes as designed
  • Confirm accuracy of dresser and wig/makeup crew timesheets
  • Prep, label, and organize costumes and show racks
  • Maintain cleaning and repair schedules provided by the Costume Director
  • Prep, and load-in costumes to the dressing rooms prior to tech week
  • Serve as Lead Dresser during Tech and Performance Runs
  • Manage dresser tracks including pre-sets, run lists, and quick changes
  • Prep, document, and implement costume quick changes
  • Provide post-show/event care and maintenance of costumes to include:
    • Strike costume elements from dressing rooms
    • Facilitate dry cleaning and laundry needs
    • Return costume items to their proper storage location
  • Assist in maintaining RMT’s costume inventory database
  • Provide costume support as needed for RMT special events and costume rentals
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in a theatrical costume shop
  • Proficient in costume construction, fittings, and alterations
  • Prior experience as a crew, lead, or dresser for theatrical productions
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of Wardrobe experience working on large scale musicals
  • 1-3 years’ experience teaching and/or working with young performers
  • Costume design experience

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform repetitive physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting, bending, and climbing ladders
  • Available to work a performance schedule which will include nights and weekends
  • Workdays could include long periods either sitting or standing
