Makella Moore is a native of Demopolis, Al, and the daughter of Wanda and the late Dennis Garner. She attended Alabama A&M University as a four year music scholarship recipient majoring in Music Business and later received her Master’s in music education from Alabama State University. Currently, she resides in Birmingham, Al. She’s a music educator for Birmingham City Schools teaching band 12 years along with Humanities, Music Appreciation and Music Theory as an adjunct instructor at Lawson State Community College for 9 years. She’s participated with UAB’s Community Orchestra (2nd chair oboist) and shared the stage with musicians such as David Sea of the Temptations, Belinda Peoples and Logan (instrumentalist and vocalist). Her theater credits include: “The Motown Story” (The Marvelettes), Belinda Peoples’ “Respect-A Tribute to Aretha Franklin”, “Dreamgirls” (Ensemble and Lorrell), “Barnstormer” (Ensemble), “For Colored Girls…” (Lady Orange), “He’s Not the Man I Married” (Angela), “Cabaret” (Kit Kat Girl), “13 Ghost of Alabama” (Ensemble), “RENT” (Joanne/ 2011 WINGS Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Singing Role”), “The Color Purple” (flautist/ clarinetist), “While the World Watched” based on the life of Carolyn Maul McKinstry (Carolyn) and “Rock of Ages” (Justice).
